Acai berries

The acai (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) berry is a small, dark purple palm fruit, indigenous to the Amazon rainforest. For hundreds of years, these berries have formed a staple part of the diet of native tribes. As a richly coloured fruit, acai berries naturally contain the purple pigments known as anthocyanins.

Zinc

Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal bones, the normal function of the immune system, the protection of cells from oxidative stress, the maintenance of normal hair, nails and skin, normal DNA synthesis, normal acid-base metabolism, normal carbohydrate metabolism, normal cognitive function, normal fertility and reproduction, normal macronutrient metabolism, normal metabolism of fatty acids, normal metabolism of vitamin A, normal protein synthesis, the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in the blood, the maintenance of normal vision and it has a role in the process of cell division. Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 contributes to the normal function of the immune system, the regulation of hormonal activity, normal cysteine synthesis, normal energy-yielding metabolism, normal homocysteine metabolism, normal protein and glycogen metabolism and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Click here and here for EFSA scientific opinions.

Biotin

Biotin is a water-soluble B-vitamin, also called vitamin B7 and formerly known as vitamin H or coenzyme R. It contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, normal functioning of the nervous system, normal macronutrient metabolism, normal psychological function, normal hair and skin and the maintenance of normal mucous membranes. Click here and here for EFSA scientific opinions.

Moringa oleifera

Moringa oleifera is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Moringa, which is the only genus in the familyMoringaceae. Common English names include: moringa, drumstick tree (referring to the appearance of the long, slender, triangular seed-pods), horseradish tree (referring to the taste of the roots), ben oil or benzoil tree (referring to the oil which is derived from the seeds). It is a fast-growing, drought-resistant tree, native to the southern foothills of the Himalayas in north-western India, and widely cultivated in tropical and sub-tropical areas where its young seed pods and leaves are used as vegetables.

Many parts of moringa are edible, including: the immature seed pods, leaves, mature seeds, oil pressed from the seeds and the flowers. The leaves are the most nutritious part of the plant, containing B vitamins, vitamin-c, provitamin A as beta-carotene, vitamin K, manganese, and protein, among other nutrients. The immature seed pods, called "drumsticks", are commonly consumed in South Asia. They contain vitamin C, dietary fiber, potassium, magnesium, and manganese. The seeds, sometimes removed from more mature pods and eaten like peas or roasted like nuts, contain vitamin C, B vitamins and dietary minerals. Mature seeds yield 38–40% edible oil called ben oil from its high concentration of behenic acid. The refined oil is clear and odorless and resists rancidity. The roots are shredded and used as a condiment with sharp flavour qualities, as a result of their polyphenol content.

Resveratrol

Resveratrol is a polyphenol compound found in the skin of grapes, blueberries, raspberries, mulberries and senna.

Grape seed extract

As the name suggests, grape seed extract is a derivative of grape seeds.

Pomegranate

The pomegranate (botanical name Punica granatum), is a fruit-bearing deciduous shrub or small tree in the family Lythraceae that grows between 5 and 8 m (16 and 26 ft) tall. The fruit contains hundreds of edible seeds called arils.

The pomegranate originated in the region of modern-day Iran and has been cultivated since ancient times throughout the Mediterranean region and northern India. Today, it is widely cultivated throughout the Middle East and Caucasus region, north Africa and tropical Africa, the Indian subcontinent, Central Asia, the drier parts of southeast Asia and parts of the Mediterranean Basin. It is also cultivated in parts of California and Arizona.

Beetroot

Beetroot is the taproot portion of the beet plant. It is one of several of the cultivated varieties of Beta vulgaris grown for their edible taproots and their leaves (called beet greens). The deep red colour of beetroot results from the presence of a type of betalain pigment (betacyanins). Beetroot also contains betaine and inorganic nitrates.

Betalain pigments
The deep red colour of beetroot results from the presence of betalain pigments. There are two categories of betalains, one of which is responsible for these reddish to violet colours - betacyanins. Betanin is an example of betacyanins present in red beetroot.

Betaine (Trimethylglycine (TMG))
Betaine is a naturally-occurring substance and amino acid, found in plants and particularly in beetroot. Betaine is created by choline, in combination with the amino acid glycine.

Dietary nitrate
Nitrate is an inorganic compound composed of nitrogen and oxygen and found naturally in soil and water. The nitrate in our diet comes from both food and drinking water, but the highest levels of dietary nitrate are found in vegetables.

a fundamental component of human cell membranes. It contains two types of Omega 3 fatty acid: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

Krill oil is used for the same reasons as cod liver oil, flax oil and other omega 3 fatty acids, but is often favoured because it does not cause fishy burps or an after-taste - a common side effect of fish oil.

The fact that it contains astaxanthin is also unique. The ultimate antioxidant - researchers have found that it may be more powerful than vitamin E, beta-carotene and lutein. It can also enhance the action of other antioxidants, such as vitamin E and C.

Our krill oil is a high-strength formula (500mg), provided in an easy-to-swallow marine gel capsule form. It is sourced exclusively from sustainable fisheries in the Antarctic, through our partners Aker BioMarine™ who work with World Wildlife Foundation Norway to ensure sustainable krill harvesting.

These superfoods are then complimented by the addition of three nutritive allies in the same formula - vitamin B6black pepper powder and turmeric extract (95% curcumin) - to provide additional support for the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, energy-yielding metabolism, immunity, red blood cell formation, the nervous system, hormonal activity, protein and glycogen metabolism and more.

This food supplement is high in bioavailable antioxidants (including anthocyanins) and contains non-irritating iron, while the black pepper increases the absorption and utilisation of the beneficial ingredients in the formula.

Combination cherry and beetroot capsules are particularly popular with athletes, because of the high levels of dietary nitrate present in beetroot, the anti-inflammatory agents present in Montmorency cherry and the high levels of antioxidants present in both. Allied with vitamin B6, black pepper powder and turmeric extract, this supplement offers those who place high demands on their body a winning combination for high energy levels, stamina, immunity and general well-being.

MORE INFO...

COL-Clear is a well-known herbal colon cleanser and bowel support combination, based on a formula by master herbalist, Dr. John R. Christopher. It is available in 3 versions - this COL-Clear A, COL-Clear-B (practitioner-only) and our THMPD-compliant COL-CLEAR B v2.

Popular with colonic hydrotherapists, COL-Clear A contains a range of active herbal ingredients specifically selected to contribute to an increase in faecal bulk and normal bowel function.

They also help to cleanse the intestinal tract, soften the stool, stimulate the liver and improve peristalsis. This, in turn, helps to produce bowel movements and expel layers of old encrusted mucus and faecal matter that may have accumulated over time.

It acts to gently cleanse, stimulate and tone the bowel wall, supporting a move towards unassisted bowel movements.

# Approved EFSA health claims:

  • The sugar beet fibre in this formula, in particular, contributes to an increase in faecal bulk in two ways: the insoluble components of the fibre increase faecal bulk by absorbing water in the large intestine, while the soluble components are fermented by bacteria in the large intestine leading to an increase in bacterial mass. As such, this source of fibre may have a beneficial physiological effect for people who want to improve or maintain a normal bowel function. FREE UK DELIVERY!

Digestive enzymes

Digestive enzymes, which are only a few of the thousands of known enzymes, are complex proteins that are found in the digestive tract.

They are secreted by different glands in the body, including the salivary glands, the stomach and pancreas glands and the glands in the small intestines. They also each have specific sites of action, including the mouth, the stomach, the duodenum and the jejunum.

The human body produces around 22 different types of digestive enzymes, each of which acts on a different type of food.

The number of digestive enzymes produced by our bodies decreases as we age - enzyme production in the body actually decreases by as much as 30% in most adults over 50. Caffeine and alcohol intake, illness, pregnancy, stress, severe weather and exercise can also all take their toll on our finite enzyme reserves.

Fibre as part of a balanced diet

The process of elimination can take anywhere from 12 to 24 hours, or even longer. Broadly speaking, the shorter the time, the better.

Unfortunately, modern eating habits and lifestyles have a tendency to increase digestive transit times quite considerably - for example, because foods high in saturated fats, sugar and artificial additives are harder for the body to digest and tend also to be low in natural dietary fibre.

As transit time increases, the stool becomes increasingly hardened and difficult to pass. Moreover, as the body re-absorbs the fluid content of the waste-matter that has failed to move through the digestive tract and be eliminated, it also re-absorbs soluble toxins.

Fibre is a key ingredient to a healthy, varied and balanced diet.

About sugar beet fibre

Sugar beet, cultivated Beta vulgaris, is a plant whose root contains a high concentration of sucrose (as its name suggests). It is grown commercially for sugar production. Sugar beets are related to other B. vulgaris cultivars, such as beetroot and chard.

Sugar beets consist of approximately 75% water, 20% sugar and 5% cell walls. After the sugar is extracted, remaining cell wall material - the sugar beet pulp - is used to produce the sugar beet fibre.

This source of dietary fiber contains both soluble and insoluble fibres. The main fibre types in sugar beet fibre are insoluble hemicellulose (22-32 %) and soluble pectin (22-29 %), but also smaller amounts of cellulose and lignin. It has a water-holding capacity of 3-4 times its own weight.

Compared to many conventional natural sources of dietary fibre, such as cereal products and fruits, sugar beet fibre has the following advantages:

  • It has a higher content of dietary fibre, with an ideal balance of 2/3 insoluble fibre.
  • It contains no phytic acid (cereal products, such as bran and flour, contain phytic acid which forms strong chemical complexes with iron and zinc and can consequently impair or reduce the natural absorption of these essential minerals in the human body).
  • It is naturally free from gluten, which means it is an excellent dietary fibre source for people suffering from gluten intolerence.

Sugar beet fibre contributes to an increase in faecal bulk in two ways: the insoluble components of the fibre increase faecal bulk by absorbing water in the large intestine, while the soluble components are fermented by bacteria in the large intestine leading to an increase in bacterial mass. As such, this source of fibre may have a beneficial physiological effect for people who want to improve or maintain a normal bowel function. Click here for EFSA scientific opinion.

About psyllium husks

Psyllium is a form of dietary fibre sourced from the Plantago ovata plant, specifically from the husks of the plant’s seed. It sometimes goes by the name Ispaghula. Psyllium is produced commercially mainly for its mucilage content. The term "mucilage" describes a group of clear, colourless gelling agents derived from plants. The mucilage obtained from psyllium comes from the seed coat. Mucilage is obtained by mechanical milling (i.e. grinding) of the outer layer of the seed. Mucilage yield amounts to about 25% (by weight) of the total seed yield. Plantago-seed mucilage is often referred to as husk, or psyllium husk. The milled seed mucilage is a white fibrous material that is hydrophilic, meaning that its molecular structure causes it to attract and bind to water. Upon absorbing water, the mucilaginous gel that forms increases in volume by ten times or more.

Weight management support

This formula includes glucomannan (a form of soluble fibre derived from the konjac root) and stevia leaf extract.

Glucomannan contributes to weight loss in the context of an energy-restricted diet. This beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3g of glucomannan in three doses of 1g each, together with 1-2 glasses of water, before meals. 1 teaspoon of Fibre & Full powder (5g) contains 1g of glucomannan.

Glucomannan also contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels. This beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 4g of glucomannan per day.

Konjac fibre glucomannan:

  • has almost no calories
  • is naturally high in fibre
  • absorbs water in the stomach
  • in contact with water, expands and can absorb up to 50 times its weight.

Plus, the stevia makes it sweeter, without the added calories!

About L-Glutamine

Glutamine is a non-essential amino acid and is the most abundant free amino acid in muscle cells. It is a molecule that our body stores in the skeletal muscles and bloodstream, and converts into glucose (blood sugar) when it is needed.

L-glutamine, the natural form of glutamine, is synthesised from 3 other amino acids: ornithine, arginine and proline. It is also a component of glutathione, a nutrient present in virtually every cell. Our body's own levels of glutamine can come under strain in circumstances of metabolic stress, including injuries, illness and even severe emotional distress.

Green coffee extract
Green coffee beans are beans that are "raw" and have not been roasted. Coffee beans are naturally green, but they are usually roasted before being sold to the consumer. This is the process that turns them brown. Coffee beans contain a plant compound called chlorogenic acid. Levels of this acid diminish if the beans are roasted.

Kidney bean extract
The white kidney bean plant (Phaseolus vulgaris) is native to Peru, Europe and the Indies.

Congugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)
Conjugated Linoleic Acid is a slightly altered form of Linoleic Acid (LA), an omega-6 fatty acid. Omega-6 fatty acids are derived from the foods we eat, primarily from meat and dairy products. It cannot be manufactured by the body.

Cinnamon
The cinnamon plant is a small, evergreen tree belonging to the family of Lauraceae within the genus, Cinnamomum. This spice is native to Sri Lanka, but is also now grown in many other countries such as Indonesia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, India and China. It contains flavonoids (such as carotenes, zea-xanthin, lutein and cryptoxanthin) and essential oils such as eugenol (a phenylpropanoids class of chemical compound that is responsible for its pleasant, sweet aromatic fragrance), ethyl cinnamate, linalool, cinnamaldehyde, beta-caryophyllene and methyl chavicol. It also contains vitamins and minerals like potassium, calcium, manganese, iron, zinc, magnesium. vitamin A, niacin, pantothenic acid and pyridoxine.

Green coffee beans

We are all familiar with coffee; the difference between our usual coffee and the green coffee beans used in this food supplement is simply that they are raw and haven't been roasted. Green coffee beans contain chlorogenic (and therefore, caffeic) acid -  a nutrient largely destroyed during the roasting process, but Green Coffee Bean EXTREME preserves these levels, even in encapsulated form (50%).

Kelp

Kelp is a large edible seaweed (algae), which grows in underwater "forests" in shallow oceans. It contains vitamins (such as A, B1, B2, C, D and E), minerals (such as iodine, vanadium, zinc, magnesium, iron, potassium, copper and calcium), enzymes (haloperoxidases), amino acids (including tryptophan, threonine, isoleucine, methionine, cysteine and valine) and chlorophyll.

Top tips for a healthy children's diet

What you feed your child can have a major effect on their health (particularly their digestive health and immunity) and long-term dietary habits.

For example, a sweet-tooth can be acquired at an early age, by eating sweeter and sweeter foods, but processed sugar is a highly toxic food. However, an existing sweet-tooth can be reversed (usually with a little resistance at first), by gradually reducing the level of sweetness in foods and drinks.

Try to avoid giving sweets, sweetened foods, cola and other sweetened drinks to children on a regular basis. Cola drinks are particularly bad because most contain caffeine, an addictive substance that can de-mineralise the body. Similarly, very few breakfast cereals are sugar-free - most processed cereals contain fast-releasing sugars and have added sugar (not to mention artificial additives, preservatives, colourings and flavourings).

An ideal nutritious snack for children, packed with vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and dietaty fibre, is fruit (especially berries), so try to make sure that you always have plenty of fruit on offer so that children can nibble as and when they are peckish.

Another good habit to develop early on is to regularly eat raw vegetables and salad foods, preferably at each meal. The younger this starts, the easier it will be to integrate into the long-term diet. Many vegetables (particularly organic produce) are naturally sweet and will therefore appeal more to a child's palate. For example, carrots, corn and peas.

It is also worth remembering that children's systems are very sensitive and react more readily to substances they are exposed to. Allergies start young and so, by paying close attention, you can find out what does and does not suit your child. For instance, many children have adverse reactions to food additives, sugar, dairy products, wheat and other gluten grains. Symptoms may include rashes, eczema, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach ache, wind, coughing, frequent sore throats, asthma and respiratory infections.

Optimum nutrition with 'real food' will support a child's digestion, immune system and general health and well-being.

More about the ingredients...

Glucosamine HCL: Glucosamine is an amino sugar that is produced naturally in the body. It is also found in seashells, or it can be made in the laboratory. Glucosamine hydrochloride is one of several forms of glucosamine and the glucosamine HCL contained in this food supplement is derived from shellfish.

MSM: MSM stands for methylsulphonylmethane, a naturally-occurring source of sulphur.

Rosehip: Rosehip is the fruit of the rose plant.

Nettle leaf: Stinging nettle is a plant in the genus Urtica that originated as a native shrub in colder regions of Europe and Asia and is now found worldwide. It gets its name from the fine hairs on its leaves and stems that release irritating chemicals when they contact your skin.

Turmeric and curcumin: Curcumin is the yellow pigment associated with turmeric, and to a lesser extent ginger.

Ginger root: Ginger, aka Zingiber officinale, is a rhizome - a thick underground stem that sprouts roots and shoots. This "hot" spice is native to warmer parts of Asia, such as China, Japan, and India, but is now also grown in parts of South American and Africa.

Montmorency cherry: Montmorency cherries are a type of red, sour cherry - Prunus cerasus.

Panax ginseng: Ginseng is any one of the 11 species of slow-growing perennial plants with fleshy roots, belonging to the genus Panax of the family Araliaceae. Panax ginseng is the botanical cousin of Siberian ginseng. The Panax ginseng used in this food supplement is of the Korean variety.

Apple cider vinegar powder: Apple cider vinegar is fermented juice from crushed apples.

Bromelain: Bromelain is an enzyme derived from pineapple juice.

Horsetail herb: Horsetail is a member of the Equisetaceae family; the sole survivor of a line of plants going back three hundred million years. The name "horsetail", often used for the entire group, arose because the branched species somewhat resemble a horse's tail.

More about the ingredients...

Hemp protein
The main ingredient in this high quality protein powder is hemp - a complete, natural and balanced source of protein. Hemp contains essential fatty acids (such as Omega 3 & omega 6 oils), all of the essential amino acids and other nutrients. There aren't many other single plant sources that provide complete protein nutrition in such an easily digestible form. Protein contributes to a growth in muscle mass, the maintenance of muscle mass and the maintenance of normal bones. Click here and here for EFSA scientific opinions.

It also contains all of the essential amino acids and 8 enzymes.

Beetroot
Beetroot is the taproot portion of the beet plant. It is one of several of the cultivated varieties of Beta vulgaris grown for their edible taproots and their leaves (called beet greens). It is a source of dietary fibre, folate (vitamin B9), manganese, potassium, iron and vitamin C. The deep red colour of beetroot results from the presence of a type of betalain pigment (betacyanins). Beetroot is also a source of betaine and inorganic nitrates.

Blackcurrant

It also contains vitamins and minerals like potassium, calcium, manganese, iron, zinc, magnesium, vitamin A, niacin, pantothenic acid and pyridoxine.

Other plant phenols present in Montmorency cherries include: chlorogenic acid, ellagic acid, gallic acid and quercetin.

Parsley piert
Parsley piert is a tiny plant that can be easily overlooked in its wild habitat, as it grows only to around 4 inches high. It is no relation to true parsley, but its leaves look similar. It is a close relation to Lady’s Mantle, hence the name Lady’s Field Mantle, and is a member of the Rosaceae or rose family of plants. It is also related to certain soft fruits (namely plums, peaches, apricots, loquats, sloes, quinces, blackberries, strawberries and raspberries), as well as to almonds, apples, pears, the dog rose and a whole host of other plants. It gets the name parsley piert from the French, perce-pierre, which means "piercing stones". This is because it was a popular remedy in times gone by for dispersing stones in the body’s organs. About the ingredients...

Saccharomyces boulardii yeast

Saccharomyces boulardii is a unique, non-pathogenic and tropical yeast (fungus) - a hardy, acid-resistant, temperature-tolerant micro-organism. It differs greatly from other better-known species, such as acidophilus and bifidobacterium bacteria strains for example. Although it is in the same genus as Saccharomyces cerevisiae (baker’s, brewer’s or dietary yeast), Saccharomyces boulardii is not linked to the Candida species (Candida albicans, tropicalas, etc.). Saccharomyces boulardii yeast was first isolated from lychee and mangosteen fruit in the 1920s by a French scientist called Henri Boulard.

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D refers to a group of fat-soluble secosteroids. In humans, the most important compounds in this group are vitamin D3 (also known as cholecalciferol) and vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol). Vitamin D3 is included in the InternaCALM formula.

Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system and healthy inflammatory response, normal absorption/utilisation of calcium and phosphorus, normal blood calcium levels, the maintenance of normal bones, the maintenance of normal muscle function, the maintenance of normal teeth, it has a role in the process of cell division and is needed for normal growth and development of bone in children.

Olive leaf extract

The olive tree has long been held in great esteem, not least for producing both the fruit and the oil. In fact, it is one of the oldest cultivated trees. But the leaf is also noteworthy, not least because it contains oleuropein (a type of phenolic compound) and elenolic acid.

Nat-Lax TNT

90 capsules: Herbal colon blend for bowel health support

Cleanse and detox Digestion

MORE INFO...

Nat-Lax TNT is a fast-acting colon cleanser, designed for the chronically constipated in need of strong treatment for a blocked bowel. Purgatives have been combined with carminatives to prevent griping.

Originally based on a Dr. John R. Christopher formula, this tried and tested combination of active ingredients is known as the ultimate herbal laxative. Sugar beet fibre has also been added to the formula, to offer specific support for an increase in faecal bulk and normal bowel function.

It is a powerful intestinal cleanser, which will "blast loose" residual intestinal congestion and get any bowel cleanse programme off to a good start.

This popular herbal combination is used extensively by colon hydrotherapists in combination with colonic hydrotherapy treatments.

  • Sugar beet fibre contributes to an increase in faecal bulk in two ways: the insoluble components of the fibre increase faecal bulk by absorbing water in the large intestine, while the soluble components are fermented by bacteria in the large intestine leading to an increase in bacterial mass. As such, this source of fibre may have a beneficial physiological effect for people who want to improve or maintain a normal bowel function. FREE UK DELIVERY!
